This is a Tyler's uniform (previously that of a Scottish State
Trumpeter) once worn at Lodge Dalkeith Kilwinning. On the left breast is a badge bearing a
compass, square and crossed swords that has replaced Queen Victoria's cipher. The buttons,
made in Dalkeith, date the uniform to Queen Victoria's reign.

The text on the metal band around
this maul reads 'This mallet was made from wood taken from the Norman Tower of Lincoln
Cathedral which was built in 1092. Presented to this Lodge Dalkeith Kilwinning No. 10 by
Bro. C. H. Burrows P. M. of Services Lodge Edinburgh on behalf of Mrs Bowers, widow of
Bro. Bowers 3.5.43'.
